Bandit Accidentally Fires 1 Shot in Hotel Robbery
WEEHAWKEN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an armed bandit accidentally fired his gun while stealing about $1,000 from the front desk of a Weehawken hotel.
Weehawken police say tell The Jersey Journal that the man entered the Sheraton Lincoln Harbor Hotel around 2 a.m. Saturday. He was armed with a black handgun, which discharged while he was pulling phone wires out of a lobby wall with the same hand he was using to hold his gun.
The bullet went into a wall, and officers later recovered a shell casing at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
The stolen money was taken from a cash register at the hotel's front desk. The man then walked out the front door and left the area.
He remained at large as of Sunday afternoon.
