Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says the baby died Thursday at Bellevue Hospital in New York.

He says charges against the baby's father, 38-year-old Yoseop Choi, will be upgraded to homicide.

The Fort Lee man was being held on $750,000 bail and charged with aggravated assault and child endangerment.

Choi's lawyer, Anthony Iacullo, said his client has pleaded not guilty to those charges but didn't comment further.

Authorities say Choi brought the boy to the hospital July 28 in cardiac arrest. He also had a severe head injury and a healing rib fracture.

Prosecutors say Choi violently shook and assaulted his son during a two-month period.
