NORTH BRUNSWICK — Police confirmed that an infant riding in a car that collided with an empty school bus on Tuesday was not properly secured.

The three people inside the Subaru were seriously injured in the crash on Route 130 at Carolier Lane, according to North Brunswick Police, including a 6-month-old boy who suffered a serious head injury. Police Capt. Brian Hoiberg said nobody has been charged with any crime of offense, but the traffic investigation is not over.

“The only way a collision like that could happen is if someone enters the intersection improperly," Hoiberg said.

State law requires a child under the age of 2 or under 30 pounds to be secured in a rear facing seat equipped with a five-point harness.

The driver of the bus suffered life threatening injuries, according to police, while the driver of the sedan and the infant's mother had traumatic injuries. Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick has not yet returned a message seeking an update on their conditions.
