The Mercer County Prosecutor's Office announced the autopsy results Tuesday, saying 12-year-old Quavon Foster's death was a homicide. Foster suffered multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Authorities said Foster's 44-year-old mother, Carmenlita Steven, also died of multiple stab wounds to the chest and blunt force trauma to the head. Both died April 25.

The mother initially was identified by authorities as Carmelita Stevens.

Hostage-taker Gerald Tyrone Murphy was fatally shot in the head when police stormed the home. The shooting ended the standoff that started when officers found the bodies while checking on Steven.
