Paterson police say the shooting occurred around 11:45 p.m. Friday.

At least two men reportedly got out of a car and told the victim to leave his vehicle. After he complied, one of the men got in the victim's car and drove off.

Meanwhile, the other assailant shot the victim before driving off in his own car.

The 21-year-old victim, identified only as a Passaic man, was taken to a hospital for treatment. But further details on his condition have not been disclosed.

No one was in the victim's vehicle when authorities found it overturned on Route 20 south.
