Authorities have identified the central New Jersey teenager who was struck and killed by a New Jersey Transit train this week.

NJ Transit Spokesman John Durso Jr. says 15-year-old Connor Cameron of Spring Lake Heights was standing on the tracks just north of the Wall Road crossing when the northbound train struck him around 10 p.m. Wednesday.

It's not yet known why Cameron was on the tracks. But Durso said the agency's preliminary investigation shows he made no attempt to avoid the oncoming train.

The train's engineer activated the emergency braking equipment and repeatedly blasted the warning horn but could not avoid hitting the boy.

No one aboard the train was hurt in the accident., which remains under investigation.
