Authorities: Drunken driver hits NJ police vehicle, injures cop
ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an alleged drunken driver crashed into a police officer's sport utility vehicle, though the officer was not seriously injured.
NJ.com reports the crash occurred Sunday night in Rockaway Township.
Authorities say 51-year-old Duane Loeffler Jr. was driving south on Green Pond Road when he allegedly entered a northbound lane and struck the officer's SUV. The officer was inside the SUV, processing information about a car accident he had responded to a short time earlier.
The officer was extricated from the SUV and taken to a hospital, where he was treated for undisclosed injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The officer's name has not been released.
Authorities say Loeffler received several motor vehicle violations and could potentially face criminal charges.
The accident remains under investigation.
