Figures released Thursday by the state Division of Gaming Enforcement show the eight surviving casinos won $230.1 million from gamblers in September, an increase of 10.8 percent over Sept. 2014.

Even when casinos that operated part of the month last September before shutting down are included in the comparison, the city's casino industry as a whole still saw its revenue rise by nearly 10 percent.

Helping matters this September was the fact that all of Labor Day weekend, a key holiday period for casinos, fell in September this year. Last year all but one day of it fell in August.

They also had an exceptionally lucky month at table games.
