HAMILTON (Mercer) — The kickoff to the holiday season was less than joyful on Friday night, with police breaking up a potential fight between gangs.

The first of two nights in Hamilton Township's Kuser Park that included the lighting of the township Christmas tree, tours of the Kuser mansion, and music was overshadowed by an assault and two rival gangs threatening to fight.

Hamilton Police said two teenage girls reported they were assaulted on Friday night and that a handgun may have been involved. Police said they are looking for two suspects in the case, a teenage black male wearing a white visor hat and black Adidas jacket. The second suspect was described as a teenage black male wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

The Trentonian reported that a group of 20 to 25 teens was prepared to fight but Hamilton Police were tipped off and were to defuse the situation. Police would not comment on the report and would only say their investigation continued and charges could be coming.

Police asked anyone with information to call 609-689-5826.
