Ash Wednesday – Another Grain of Sand in the Hourglass of Life.

My mom used to say, “….oh my God, I can’t believe Ash Wednesday is here already. Pretty soon Easter. Oh, and by the way, did you get your ashes?”

And while there was no obligation to attend Mass on Ash Wednesday, it’s still one of the days that “PACE” Catholics feel they MUST attend Mass.

(PACE is the acronym for Palm Sunday, Ash Wednesday, Christmas, Easter).

Admittedly, while not a PACE Catholic, I’ll go to church occasionally. Not proud of that fact, but that’s true.

However, if there’ one thing I’m reminded of on this day, besides the religious significance of it all, is perspective.

Perspective in that you come into this world with basically nothing (like little Nicky Boy, screaming and yelling his head off);

Nicky Boy on day one!

and even though you may have attained greatness, still leave it the way you came in.

Sort of like that poem “The Dash”:
