Authorities say a late-night fire damaged a small section of Atlantic City's Boardwalk, but was mainly contained to a ramp leading to the iconic walkway.

Fire Chief Dennis Brooks tells The Press of Atlantic City the blaze appears to have started in a large storage unit used by boardwalk businesses.

And he says it appears to be a case of arson.

The fire department got the call shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday.

Brooks says the fire, on the boardwalk at St. James Place, got big quickly and went to two alarms. But the overwhelming majority of the 100 feet of damage was on a ramp leading to the Boardwalk and not on the Boardwalk itself.

The fire was in a remote section far away from where Boardwalk strollers walk.
