Fifty-nine-year-old William H. White was arrested Sunday at a homeless assistance center in Homestead, Fla. He initially was held on a theft warrant, and Camden County prosecutors announced the murder charges Tuesday.

White is charged in the death of 49-year-old Alma Brito-Reyes, whose body was found June 4. Brito-Reyes and White had been in a relationship for 15 years, but her relatives say she was breaking up with him and claimed he had threatened to kill her if she left him.

Prosecutors say White admitted assaulting Brito-Reyes and hitting her with a handgun. They say he also used her bank card to withdraw $500 before fleeing the state.
