NJ.com reported that Harry Harrington, 48, got out of the car on East State Street, leaving behind a 6-year-old and 7-year-old  as he ran away from officers, according to police.

Police caught up to Harrington and during a scuffle a handgun dropped to the ground, police reportedly said. The Trentonian reported quoted police saying had Harrington sent to a hospital where he spit in an officer's face and said he had another gun.

Harrington was charged with aggravated assault, weapons offenses, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest and other offenses, according to the newspaper.

The two boys were turned over to the State Division of Child Protection and then to their mother, according to the Trentonian.
