Humongous on humor and large on laughs, the story of The BFG (Big Friendly Giant) was Roald Dahl's personal favorite. On stage, his whizz-cracklingly wacky tale comes to life with puppets and people creating a fantastical world of towering giants and magical adventures. The BFG won the Federation of Children's Book Groups Award in 1982. In 1989 it was turned into an animated film featuring the voice of David Jason. More than 30 years later, the Big Friendly Giant remains a much-loved character whose turned-around language of gobblefunk continues to tongue-tie us all.

Special Program, Sandi Grant will talk about the changes that occurred in women's lives during the Civil War, how it affected them, how they dealt with the loss of income, companionship, support, and how they were able to help the men who went off to war. The Civil War had a significant impact on women who took on new roles in support of the men who marched off to war to defend and maintain their way of life and culture. In order to survive and care for their families women of all ages in the North and South had to take on the responsibilities traditionally held by men. They stepped up to become farmers, bankers, merchants, and in some cases, nurses, doctors, spies and soldiers. The Civil War marked a major turning point for women and their roles in society. The sacrifices women made heighten the Nation's perception of its citizens' capabilities and accelerated attainment of equality, and civil rights not only for the races but for women. The program will begin at 1 pm.
