A&P warns workers at headquarters they face layoffs
MONTVALE, N.J. (AP) -- A&P is warning 319 employees at its Montvale headquarters that they face layoffs just days before Thanksgiving.
The notices, required under federal and state law, follow previous warnings sent to 8,648 workers at 94 supermarkets in New Jersey and more than 10,000 employees in five other states as a result of A&P's bankruptcy.
The Record newspaper reports the latest notices cover essentially all of the employees at A&P's corporate headquarters, other than top executives.
A&P has closed on the sale of 71 stores to Acme and 24 stores to Stop & Shop. It also has an offer for 12 other stores from Wakefern Food Corp.
