An uptick in ticks? [AUDIO]

The tick season generally lasts from April to September in New Jersey. With increasing amounts of construction taking place across the state, deer and bears are being forced from their habitats into residential areas more often, and they carry ticks.

“It’s important to make sure that your grass is not high,”┬ásaid Leonard Douglen, executive director of the New Jersey Pest Management Association. “Put your socks over your pants and use a repellant, like DEET. With children, it’s important to use a concentration of 15 percent. If you’re spending any time in a wooded area, make sure you check your body for ticks when you return.”

If you want to know if you have ticks in your yard, there is a simple way to check, according to Douglen. You can take a light-colored cloth and drag it across the yard. If you have ticks, they will jump onto the cloth.
