CAMDEN — America's largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility is moving its corporate headquarters to a huge waterfront complex planned in Camden.

The Voorhees-based American Water Works Co. on Thursday confirmed its plans to move hundreds of jobs to Camden.

The $1 billion project will be located between the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and the Adventure Aquarium. Plans call for offices, shops, and homes.

American Water hopes to begin building the five-story metal-and-glass building this fall and finish construction in the second half of 2018.

It stands to receive more than $160 million in incentives under the Grow New Jersey program, which rewards employers who invest in struggling cities.

The utility has taken over most of Camden's water and sewer systems.
