A "physical altercation" between a Bloomfield councilman and family members of another elected official accused of taking a bribe was caught on video.

The apparent scuffle took place outside a township council meeting between Councilman Joseph Lopez and Daniel Chalet, a relative of first ward Councilman Elias Chalet, who is facing charges that he accepted a $15,000 bribe, according to a report by  NJ Advance MediaThe incident allegedly occurred when Daniel Chalet and a group of his cousins were walking past Lopez's car, according to police reports obtained by the news organization.

Lopez told police that a group of people surrounded his car outside the municipal complex, and one person tried to open his car door, the story said, citing a police report. Lopez also reportedly told police he then kicked open the car door.

Chalet, however, told Mountainside police that Lopez punched him twice, causing his cell phone to fall and hit the ground, according to the  NJ Advance Media report. Chalet filed aggravated assault charges against Lopez, the story states. So far, police have not charged anyone in connection with the incident.
