Officials in Farmingdale don't know what to do after all six members of the town council resigned.

Farmingdale had to cancel Tuesday's council meeting because only Mayor John Morgan continues to serve.

The resignations in the rural Monmouth County community began last month and concluded Monday with the resignations of three members.

Former Councilman William Donovan tells the Asbury Park Press there was a lack of civility and communication with the mayor.

The mayor says council members didn't communicate with him either.

A spokesman for Gov. Chris Christie says the governor can appoint members to the council in such a "rare and unusual situation."
