State wildlife officials tell The Record that the animal's body was found around 9:30 a.m. Sunday and was taken to a state lab for rabies testing.

The coyote was shot Thursday by police in Norwood, just days after another coyote apparently attacked a resident in that Bergen County community. The first coyote was killed by a state wildlife officer and has since tested positive for rabies.

Authorities have urged parents to keep their children and small pets inside.

The state veterinarian has recommended that residents vaccinate their pets and avoid contact with stray and wild animals.
