ACLU Sues 7 NJ School Districts

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey's American Civil Liberties Union is suing seven school districts over enrollment policies that the ACLU believes discriminates against students whose parents are in the country without legal permission.

The districts require government-issued photo identification as a condition of enrollment. The ACLU is asking a judge to halt the requirement.

The seven districts are: Audubon, Gloucester Township, Somerdale Park, North Brunswick, Old Bridge, Perth Amboy and Galloway Township.

The ACLU in April warned 136 school districts in the state that they could face litigation if they did not change their policies. It says 109 have complied with the request as of late May.
