AC Mayor Has Change Of Heart, Seeks 3rd Term

During his campaign for a second term, Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford said it would be his last run for office.

He's changed his mind.

Langford announced Tuesday he'll seek a third term. The 58-year-old Democrat says the creation of a tourism district, a steep drop in the city's tax base and Superstorm Sandy recovery efforts are all reasons for his change of heart.

Democratic Party officials tell the Press of Atlantic City the contest for the party's endorsement is wide open. Other Democrats in the race include Atlantic County Freeholder Charles Garrett. The only declared Republican candidate is Don Guardian, an official with the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.

In September the state extended its financial oversight of the struggling city for another year.
