AAA Predicts Slight Increase in NJ Holiday Travel

It looks as though the staycation may be a thing of the past for New Jersey residents.

Hordes of them are expected to hit the roads, rails and skies this holiday season to travel at least 50 miles from home -- 2.2 million to be exact. AAA Mid-Atlantic says that's the second-highest year-end holiday travel volume in the past 10 years.

About 91 percent of all travelers will take their cars. That's about 1 percent higher than last year.

Plane travel is expected to decrease by about 10 percent, but travel on all other modes is expected to rise 3 percent.

Recent falling gas prices may be a factor, though AAA notes that a year ago gas was 18 cents cheaper in New Jersey than it is now.
