‘A Penny for Your Thoughts’ by Tavares – Doyle’s ‘Not-So-Top-10′
Tavares was five brothers (with the last name "Tavares” from Massachusetts who once performed as Chubby and the Turnpikes. Their first Top 10 hit was “It Only Takes A Minute” in 1975 followed by the million-selling “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel (Part 1). The song I requested was “A Penny For Your Thoughts” which was released in 1982 and peaked nationally at #33. The song was written by Kenny Nolan, who is probably best known for his own hit “I Like Dreamin’” which hit #3 in 1977, but he also wrote “My Eyes Adored You” and “Lady Marmalade”. I assume he’s making good royalty money of those. Unfortunately, my request was ignored.
