NCAA: A Day Of Upsets [VIDEO/POLL]

Friday's NCAA action included victories by a No. 15, No. 13 and No. 12 seed.

Sherwood Brown scored 24 points and Bernard Thompson added 23 as 15th seed Florida Gulf Coast beat No. 2 Georgetown 78-68. The Eagles are just the seventh No. 15 seed to beat a second seed, and the third in the last two tournaments.

FGCU took control with a 21-2 run that gave the Eagles a 52-33 lead with 12:28 to play. The Hoyas got within 72-68 with 52 seconds left before Florida Gulf Coast won in its second season of being eligible for Division I postseason

The No. 12 seeds finished 3-1 in the second round following Mississippi's win over Wisconsin Friday afternoon, just before No 13 seed La Salle played itself into the third round as well.

Ole Miss knocked off fifth seed Wisconsin 57-46, giving the Rebels their first tournament win since 2002. Marshall Henderson of Ole Miss shook out of a shooting slump and scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half.

Jerrell Wright made three foul shots in the final 30 seconds, and the La Salle Explorers survived after blowing an 18-point halftime advantage to beat fourth-seeded Kansas State 63-61. Wright scored a game-high 21 points for the Explorers.

Kansas barely avoided becoming the first No. 1 seed to fall to a No. 16 seed as Jeff Withey scored 17 points in the Jayhawks' 64-57 win over Western Kentucky. Ben McLemore and Travis Relaford each had 11 points for the Jayhawks, who trailed 31-30 at halftime and never led by more than 11.

In other action from the NCAA tourney:

— Freshman Yogi Ferrell scored 14 points in the first six minutes as top-seeded Indiana cruised to an 83-62 win over James Madison. Ferrell finished with 16 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Hoosiers, who led by 33 in the second half.

— No. 2 Ohio State had little trouble with Iona as Sam Thompson had career highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds in the Buckeyes' 95-70 rout of the Gaels. Deshaun Thomas added 24 points to the Buckeyes' ninth consecutive win.

— Second seed Duke opened play with a 73-61 win over Albany. Seth Curry had 26 points and Mason Plumlee added 23 for the 28-5 Blue Devils.

— Another second-seeded team from the ACC is Miami, which scored 14 straight points in the first half and hammered Pacific 78-49. Durand Scott canned five three-pointers and had 21 points for the Hurricanes.

— Erik Murphy had 19 points and No. 3 seed Florida put together a 19-1 spurt in the second half to beat Northwestern State 79-47. Patric Young had 16 points and nine rebounds while helping the Gators hold the Demons to their lowest point total of the season, 34 below their average.

— Andre Hollins poured in 28 points and Austin Hollins added 16 to carry No. 11 Minnesota's offense in an 83-63 stomping of UCLA. Shabazz Muhammad finished with 20 points in what may have been his final game at UCLA and Ben Howland's final one with the program.

— Freshman George Niang matched a season high with 19 points and Melvin Ejim added 17 as No. 10 Iowa State thumped No. 7 Notre Dame 76-58. The Cyclones turned it into a rout by shooting better than 70 percent for much of the second half.

— Seventh seed San Diego got 21 points out of Jamaal Franklin and beat Oklahoma 70-55. James Rahon had 17 points for the Aztecs.

— No. 7 Illinois blew a 16-point halftime lead before outlasting Colorado 57-49. Brandon Paul scored 17 points, including a key three-pointer in the second half and four free throws down the stretch.

— P.J. Hairston scored 23 points and Roy Williams picked up his 700th career coaching victory in North Carolina's 78-71 win against Villanova. James Michael McAdoo added 17 for the eighth-seeded Tar Heels, who blew a 20-point lead before winning.

— Khalif Wyatt scored 31 points and Temple broke with its one-and-done NCAA tournament trend, beating North Carolina State 76-72. The ninth-seeded Owls are 24-9 after winning an NCAA for only the second time in their last six trips.

— Doug McDermott had 27 points and 11 rebounds, and to lead Creighton (KRAY'-tuhn) past Cincinnati 67-63. Ethan Wragge added 12 for the Bluejays, who won their NCAA tournament opener for the second straight year.
