Remembering 9/11/01 - It was a day that changed the course of history. 13 years ago today, on September 11th, 2001, terrorists flew hijacked jetliners into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, while a 4th plane went down in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The 9/11 attacks will be forever engraved in our memories and our hearts.

 

 

 

September 11, 2001 is a day Governor Christie says he will never forget. On today's 13th anniversary, Christie says it's a time to count our blessings but it's also a good reminder that we should always remain vigilant.

"A steady, relentless effort to take out ISIL" - President Obama has ordered the destruction of the Islamic state. The Islamic radicals who have taken control of parts of Iraq and Syria who beheaded two American journalists and are engaged in a new world holocaust of Christians and Jews. For now, the president has vastly expanded airstrikes but will not commit us ground troops but we will train Syrian forces. Treasury officials are also looking into the funding sources for Isis.trying to choke off their ability to make war....

NFL Investigates Handling of Ray Rice - The NFL has brought in the former head of the FBI, Robert Mueller, to lead an investigation into what the league knew, and saw, and when. Commissioner Roger Goodell continues to deny anyone from the league saw the Rice elevator video even though a law enforcement source says he sent it to them. Calls for the commissioner to resign continue

Meanwhile, Atlantic County Prosecutor Jim McClain says he did have that video and it would have been enough to convict Rice but even with a conviction, he would not have served any jail time. Therefore McClain let him into a pretrial intervention program. However, state guidelines for PTI clearly state anyone charged with deliberately committing violence should be rejected.

FEMA Wants Money Back - Thousands of people who received aid money after Superstorm Sandy may have to pay it back. FEMA is sending out payback notices for millions of dollars to people who claimed vacation homes, where some damages were covered by insurance, where more than one family member got a payment. On average, Fema is asking for an almost $7,000 repayment per household.

Alimony Reform Bill Signed - Governor Christie has put pen to paper and now the alimony reform bill is law in New Jersey. Permanent alimony has been eliminated going forward, but if a judge has ordered you to pay lifetime alimony you still have to fork over your cash to your ex.

$10 Attack - A Toms River High School South student is under arrest for punching a school worker and robbing the cafeteria. Police say the student was agitated and wandering the halls Monday then made his way into the cafeteria where he punched a school worker in the head, grabbed $10 out of the cash register and tried to run before he was tackled by staff.

Unscheduled Time for Kids (Part 4) - Downtime is vital to a child's development. So, when kids are "over-scheduled," they often don't have enough time for unstructured activities. In part four of our week-long series, we find out why that downtime is so important.

Video On Patrol - Police officers in new jersey will soon be required to make video recordings of all actions. Governor Christie has signed a law requiring all new police cruisers have video cameras or individual officers be given wearable cameras.

Fear on the Road - Driving in New Jersey, and living Murphy's Law, "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong." a new survey finds drivers do worry.

 

 

Sports Betting - At the beginning of this week Governor Christie announced sports betting at racetracks and casinos in New Jersey will no longer be considered illegal but so far the response has been muted. Only one track, Monmouth Park, says they're planning to take sports bets by the end of October and we haven't heard a peep from any of the casinos.

A Future for Revel? - The best offer on the the $2.4 Revel casino: 90-million. That's how much Florida developer is offering. A bankruptcy judge would have to approve it. It's unclear if the new owner would operate Revel as a casino...
