Woman killed after off-duty cop crashes car in Burlington County
FLORENCE — A woman was killed and an off-duty police officer was critically injured when the car they were in struck a utility pole.
Authorities say the single-car crash occurred early Friday in the area of West Front Street and Woodlawn Avenue in this Burlington County township. They say speed is believed to have been a factor in the accident, but the cause of the crash remained under investigation on Saturday.
Ariana Williams, a 27-year-old Florence Township resident who was a passenger in the car, was killed.
The driver, 25-year-old Justin Rodriguez, was ejected from the vehicle and remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Rodriguez is a Burlington Township police officer who was driving his own car.
Florence police said blood was drawn for Rodriguez in order to conduct a toxicology test.
