Police in Bergen County are investigating how an SUV ended up on top of two parked vehicles in a church parking lot Sunday morning.

Old Tappan police officers responded to the Presbyterian Church of the Palisades on Old Tappan Road at about 8:08 a.m. Sunday after a caller reported that there had been a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot, according to Old Tappan Police Chief Thomas Shine.

When patrol officers arrived, they found that a white SUV — with its 62-year-old male driver inside — on top of two other vehicles that were parked in the church lot, Shine said. Although he wasn't injured and was described as being "conscious and alert," police say he needed assistance getting out of the vehicle. The driver, a Norwood resident, ultimately refused medical attention

Crews from the Old Tappan Fire Department and Old Tappan EMS squad assisted the driver from the vehicle, Chief Shine said. The crash is still under investigation.
