Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Born to Run’ house on sale for $252,000

Got just under $252,000 laying around? The friends who bought and saved the house where Bruce Springsteen wrote "Born to Run" are selling after just a few years, saying their lives have moved in different directions.

NJ Advance Media reported last year Jerry Ferrara, his sister Kim McDermott and his friend Ryan DeCarolis were  moving on after saving the 828-square foot house at the Long Branch Beach from potential demolition. At the time, the home was listed for about $300,000. Now it's dropped almost $50,000, according to a Trulia listing.

Springsteen is coming to Freehold's Barnes & Noble Tuesday to sign copies of his new memoir, "Born to Run." We're expecting it to be swamped (and several NJ 101.5ers will be there).

DeCarolis and his wife needed a bigger plan and the group collectively hasn't had the time to dedicate to renovations, NJAM reported. The two-bedroom, single-bath house at t 7½ West End Court has a new roof, new wood floors and vinyl siding, according to the report.

NJ 101.5's own Big Joe Henry stopped in by the house in the summer of 2015, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Born to Run. As he wrote at the time:

Bruce rented a small house in the West End section of Long Branch. This house would provide the first real solitude for Bruce as he had been bouncing around living with roommates, in houses, apartments and his family home in Freehold.

It was in this Long Branch house that Bruce Springsteen wrote the iconic album Born to Run. In the front room of the house on a stand up piano every song of Born to Run was created. Bruce talked about looking out the window of that house, reflecting and eventually writing every lyric while playing every note on that famous piano.

When the album was finished Bruce had all the members of The E Street Band sign that piano. As Bruce hit the road to promote the album he moved out of the famous house and left the signed piano behind.

The woman who owned the house stored the piano and eventually threw the piano out. So somewhere in a New Jersey landfill sits a piano that was part of Rock and Roll history. Bruce Springsteen’s Born to Run, 40 years and still going strong.
