BERKELEY — A 92-year-old man was struck by a pickup truck and killed as he exited the Garden State Parkway on Sunday.

A preliminary investigation determined that Robert Fastow, of Burlington, brought his Ford Fusion to a stop at the Exit 77 ramp from the Parkway in Berkeley around 2:45 p.m. and was struck in the driver's side by a passing Ford F250,  according to Ocean County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Al Della Fave.

Della Fave said the impact sent Fastow's Fusion to the shoulder of the road while the pickup stopped in the middle of the road.

The investigation preliminary said that Fastow may not have yielded the right of way to the driver of the pickup, whose identity was not disclosed by Della Fave. Authorities believe a "medical event" may have contributed to the crash.
