91-Year-Old NJ Woman’s Death Ruled a Homicide
Police in northern New Jersey are investigating the death of a 91-year-old woman who they say was killed in her home during what may have been a robbery attempt.
The Union County prosecutor's office has not released the manner of death for Annette Hempel, but says the medical examiner has ruled it a homicide.
Prosecutor Theodore Romankow says Hempel was last seen alive Thursday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. by a family member who lived on the second-floor of Hempel's two-family home in Elizabeth.
Investigators say the family member returned a few hours later to find Hempel unresponsive on the living room floor of her first floor apartment.
She was pronounced dead at the scene around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police are asking for anyone with information to contact them.
