9 Firefighters Overcome by Heat Battling Jersey City Fire

At least nine firefighters have been overcome by the heat battling a blaze that has burned at least three homes in Jersey City.

The cause has not yet been determined.

Neighbor Trina Bullock says there were flames and smoke all around, and then she heard two or three explosions.

Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill says nine firefighters have suffered heat exhaustion and one had an ankle injury.

The fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. Friday as temperatures in the region reached the high 90s.
