An 8-year-girl in Asbury Park is recovering from minor injuries she sustained after being grazed by a bullet during an exchange of gunfire between a police officer and a suspect during a foot-chase on Springwood Avenue Wednesday night.

NJ.com reports that acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni, at a press conference in Asbury Park, announced that 20-year-old Dante Allen has been charged with attempted murder after he ran off during a "lawful investigatory stop" by officer Terrance McGhee. McGhee chased Allen, who Gramiccioni said fired the first shot, according to a video obtained by police.

One of the bullets went through the wall of a Borden Avenue home, striking and grazing  the 8-year-old in the forehead. The girl, who has not been identified by police, received stitches for her injuries. Gramiccioni said it is not known who fired the bullet that hit the girl.

McGhee is on paid administrative lead in accordance with police protocol pending an investigation.
