A Holmdel road was shut down for four hours Tuesday morning after a garbage truck lost its load — spilling out the contents into the street.

Police said they responded to the area of Bethany Road and Old Manor Road at around 4:30 a.m. regarding a report of garbage in the roadway. There, they found a Sakoutis Brothers Disposal garbage truck had dumped a full load of garbage into the roadway, police said.

The rear door to the truck hadn't been secured properly, and when the garbage in the truck was compacted, it forced the door open, causing the truck to lose its load, police said.

Bethany Road was closed between Hazlet Avenue and Old Manor Road for approximately four hours during cleanup by Sakoutis and the Holmdel Department of Public Works, police said.

Multiple summonses were issued to Sakoutis and the driver of the truck.
