In the avalanche of stories on the death of Whitney Houston, I wanted to remind people of her New Jersey roots (heck she was actually born in Newark in 1963 and raised in East Orange) and this article says it all.  The New Hope Baptist Church where she performed as a girl was packed Sunday morning, only hours really after the news of her death spread.  The pastor Joe A. Carter addressed the media outside the church and you can hear what he had to say about Whitney, as well as see a video of her performing at that very church when she was only ten years old if you follow our link.  Its sad to lose someone who once shone so brightly.  Let's remember even with the celebrity royalty from which she came, (Cissy Houston is her mother, Aretha Franklin her godmother, Dionne Warwick her cousin) she was from here, she was one of our own.
