NJ101.5 has partnered with local animal rescue organizations EASEL Animal Rescue League and Friends of EMAS (Edison Municipal Animal Shelter) to feature adoptable local pets in need of homes. Adopt Iris

Iris came to the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter as a young mama cat with a litter of three kittens. She was a good mother and all of her kittens have been placed in loving homes, and now it's her turn to go home. Iris is a petite cat, you might even think she's a kitten. She likes to play and has very expressive eyes. She has an easy going personality and just wants a family to call her own.

Iris is currently at the shelter's PetSmart Adoption Center on Rt. 27 in Edison. Iris is spayed, up-to-date on her vaccinations and she is FIV/FeLV negative.

If you're interested in meeting Iris or adopting her, please email us at EAS@edisonnj.org or call us at 732-248-7278. You can see more adoptable cats from Friends of EMAS here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.

Adopt Vivian

Vivian was found loose at Moody Park in Ewing Township and brought to the Ewing Animal Shelter. She is high-strung and nervous, but is friendly enough. Vivian needs some time to calm down, but we think that she will adjust once she does. We think that her hyperactivity is because she's desperately craving attention. It may be helpful to her if she was placed in a home with an assertive dog who can help give her some direction. She knows how to listen, but needs constant guidance. With time, we believe that Vivian will be an excellent companion.

If you’re interested in learning more about Vivian or to schedule a visit, email dogs@easelnj.org or call 609-883-0540. Find more of EASEL’s adoptable dogs and puppies here or download a PDF copy of the application form here.

Adopt Cocoa

Come on over to meet Cocoa at the Edison Municipal Animal Shelter, and see how nicely she sits for a treat. Cocoa is a beautiful Labrador Retriever and Pit Bull Terrier mix, with a gorgeous chocolate colored coat. She was surrendered to the shelter with her best dog friend, Shadow, because their family lost their home. Cocoa and Shadow love to hang out together because and it would be nice for these two buddies to be adopted together, but they would be just as happy in separate loving homes.

Initially, Cocoa was very scared in the shelter and uninterested in making new friends. Since working with her, she has come out of her shell and has blossomed into a sweet, affectionate, calm and gentle girl. She walks like a dream on a leash and loves her daily walks where she gets to explore the outside world. She knows some basic commands, takes treats gently and likes to be petted while enjoying some quiet time.

Cocoa can be wary around strangers and will bark at them so the best way to meet her is to avoid eye contact and let her come to you on her own terms. For those interested in adopting her, it would be best to visit her and walk her several times so that a bond can be formed.
