4 hurt in NJ Transit River Line crash with car

RIVERTON — Service was suspended on NJ Transit's River Line after a car was struck in Burlington County.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Lisa Torbic said the accident at the intersection of Main and Broad Street in Riverton injured four people when the southbound train hit the car around 10:15 a.m. Thursday. Photos and video show the roof of the car that was stuck as being sheared off.

The train was carrying 35 passengers and a crewman.

Two of the injured were in the car were and taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden. The other two injured on the train were sent to Lourdes Medical Center in Willingboro, according to Torbic, who said all suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Torbic did not know the circumstances that led to the accident and did not know the identities of anyone involved.

River Line service was suspended between Palmyra and Cinnaminson for over 2 hours but was restored with delays just before 1 p.m.
