PATERSON — Three men were shot and wounded when a dispute broke out among a large group of people gathered on a Paterson street corner.

City authorities say the shootings occurred around 5:20 a.m. Sunday in the area of Market and East 42nd streets.

It's not yet clear how many shooters were involved or what types of guns were used. But authorities say multiple shots were fired overall.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

Authorities say the three victims were city residents. But their names were not disclosed,

A 31-year-old man was shot in the torso and leg, while a 23-year-old was struck in the torso. Both remained hospitalized Sunday in serious condition.

A 19-year-old man who suffered an arm wound was expected to be released from the hospital Sunday.
