NEWARK (AP) — Three firefighters were hurt and 18 residents were displaced when a fast-moving fire severely damaged three homes in Newark.

Newark fire officials tell NJ.com that the fire on Ridge Street was reported shortly before 10 p.m. Friday and was brought under control about two hours later.

The blaze began in a three-story home that was undergoing renovations, then soon spread to two adjacent homes. The first home had heavy fire damage, while the other two had water, smoke and some fire damage.

Two firefighters were treated at hospitals for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation, while another suffered a hand laceration.

None of the displaced residents were injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
