2nd Official Gets Prison in Hamilton Corruption
Hamilton's former community planning director has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for serving as a bagman for the town's corrupt mayor.Rob Warney had pleaded guilty to money laundering and testified against then-Mayor
, who last week got a prison sentence of over three years.
When the mayor solicited bribes from the school district insurance broker, it was Warney who received the first $5,000 check. It was made payable to his wife with a notation it was for a "cherry bedroom set." He distributed it to Bencivegno in smaller amounts.
Warney also admitted taking bribes on his own from the same broker's firm when he was on the school board.
The Times of Trenton reports he told a federal judge in Trenton on Friday, "This is not the legacy I want to leave behind."
