2 unions resume efforts to reach new deals with NJ Transit

Two rail workers unions that recently rejected tentative contracts with New Jersey Transit are resuming efforts to reach new deals.

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers says its negotiators met Monday with agency officials to discuss why the contract was rejected and related issues. The union says another meeting is planned for next week.

Officials with United Transportation Union Local 60 said they recently met to discuss feedback from members about their rejected contract and consider proposed changes. The union is now polling members about those changes.

NJ Transit officials declined to comment about the negotiations.

The unions were part of an 11-member coalition that reached deals with the agency in March. That came about 24 hours before a strike deadline.

The other unions have ratified their deals.
