A suspect has been arrested in connection with two aggravated assaults near Mettler residence hall on Rutgers University's New Brunswick campus on Friday evening, according to Rutgers Police.

In a statement Chief Kenneth Cop, the chief of Rutgers Police, said that officers responded to the report of the assaults. Both victims were hospitalized and a suspect was taken into custody, he said. The suspect and victims were not identified; it's not known if any of those involved are Rutgers students.

Students were sent texts and emails alerting them of the incident on Friday evening by Rutgers Police.

A witness told ABC 7 two men who had been talking suddenly began to argue and got into a knife fight. “Everyone was like freaking out, screaming,” Rutgers freshman Colin Sheehan of Fair Lawn told CBS New York.

The 4-story Mettler Hall is located in the "Bishop Beach" area of campus along College Avenue home to 330 students, mostly underclassmen, according to Rutgers' website.  It is located near the College Avenue Gym, the Alexander Library, Brower Commons Dining and the student center.

President Obama is scheduled to visit the campus on Monday.
