Spring Lake police tell the Asbury Park Press that no injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say the boat started taking on water when it was struck by larger-than-expected waves.

Officers Emmett Smith and William Kelly saw the man was in trouble and swam about 100 yards to reach him. They then guided him back to shore.

It wasn't immediately clear if the man was involved with either one of the two children's trout fishing tournaments that were being staged in the area. His name was not released.

The rescue by Spring Lake PD officers, who jumped in to assist the man to safety.
