PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS — Police say two people were killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday morning on Route 287.

According to NJ State Police, the driver, James Ruggiero Jr., 56, and his wife, Denise Hannon Ruggiero, 53, both of Hamburg, suffered fatal injuries in the crash, which occurred at about 11:11 a.m. on the southbound side of Rt. 287, near the 41.2 milepost in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township, Morris County.

Police say Ruggiero's 1994 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling southbound on I-287 when it ran off the road to the right, struck a guardrail, and ejected both riders.

State police say officers from the Crime Scene Investigation and Fatal Accident Units are investigating the cause of the fatal crash. In addition, units from the Parsippany Police and Fire Departments are assisting in the investigation. Authorities say there were partial lane closuresfor about three hours following the crash. The express lanes remained open.
