State police say the crash occurred around 8 p.m. Saturday in the local northbound lanes of the highway in Ridgefield Park.

The 17-year-old driver was ejected from the car and was hospitalized in critical condition, while 18-year-old passenger Steven Fermin was hospitalized in stable condition. But further details on their injuries were not disclosed Sunday.

The car had been reported stolen around 7:20 p.m. from a parking lot at the Six Flags Great Adventure theme park in Jackson Township.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. It's not yet known if Fermin or the teenage driver will face any charges.
