A $1,000 reward is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest and conviction.

A person called police after finding the tan-and-white pit bull mixes on Monday.

Animal control officer John DeCando tells The Record one of the dogs was being protective of the other, which was too weak to stand.

DeCando says the dogs were "thrown away like yesterday's garbage."

The dogs are being cared for by Second Chance Pet Adoption and will be put up for adoption once they recover.
