Prosecutors say a man and a young child were killed and two other people were injured when a fast-moving fire roared through a multifamily home in northern New Jersey.

Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp says the fire began around 4 a.m. Monday in Mount Olive.

Witnesses say flames were shooting through the home when firefighters arrived, and the fire's intense heat and smoke hampered rescue efforts.

Knapp says 52-year-old Hesham Moustafa and a 7-year-old child were killed in the fire. Two other people suffered undisclosed injuries and were being treated at a hospital.

It wasn't immediately clear how many people lived in the building, which had four units. Neighbors say all four units were occupied by families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
