FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — Police say a 13-year-old boy sustained possible life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car as he was riding his bike Monday evening.

According to police, the incident took place at about 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Amwell Road and Elizabeth Avenue in Franklin Township.

Police say that after an initial investigation, it was determined that the teen was struck by a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Amwell Road. The boy was transported to a nearby hospital with "possible life-threatening injuries," police said in a statement.

Amwell Road was closed for about three hours as members of the Franklin Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Bureau investigated the crash. Police Sgt. Philip Rizzo said the driver remained at the scene, and that no charges have been filed. The names of the boy and the driver have not been released.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are asking anyone with information to contact Ptl. Jose Jaime at 732-873-5533, ext. 3143.
