TV Land, the Awards About Nothing
TV Land remembered the good old days of television with the 10th annual TV Land awards. Kelly Ripa hosted and appeared in various classic TV costumes like Catwoman and Morticia. I don’t know about you but everytime I see Kelly Ripa, as beautiful as she is, I want her to eat something. I remember when she did those kitchen commercials, couldn’t she have grabbed a sandwich?
So TV Land once again remembered the classic days of television, the days when shows were shows and you had to do something to receive an award. They gave Pee Wee Herman the “Pop Culture” award. I would have given him the popcorn award but that’s a different story.
As I watched the cast of “One Day At A Time”, “Laverne and Shirley”, “Murphy Brown”. And “In Living Color” reunite, I kept thinking to myself, What have these people done to win an award decades after the fact except stay alive and agree to reunite for this show?
The other thought I had is if these reunited shows are so great, why isn’t TV Land rerunning them? A look at te TV Land schedule shows an endless supply of “MASH,” “Gunsmoke”, “Bonanza” “Murder She Wrote” and “Leave It To Beaver”, “Home Improvement”, “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “King Of Queens” , As good as some of these shows are, they’ve been on so long they’re getting burned out. The back to back to back episodes aren’t helping either. Neither is running the same episode on successive nights in the same time slot.
If TV Land really wanted to honor these shows, they would include them on their schedule so that those who weren’t there the first time either because we had lives or weren’t born yet, could see what all the fuss was about. Which reruns would you like to see brought back? .
