A 10-year-old girl died Monday morning when the mini-van she was a passenger in rolled over on its side after being struck on a Plainfield street.

Plainfield Police in a statement said the minivan was hit at 7:20 a.m. by a Ford Taurus driven by an adult male at the intersection of Arlington Street at West 9th Street, not far from Plainfield High School and Evergreen Elementary School.

Police said the girl was one of six children inside the minivan between the ages of 6 and 16; the minivan was being driven by an adult female. Plainfield Police would not say if the minivan was a private or municipal vehicle.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the name of anyone involved. Police had previously described the crash as a "very severe accident."

Police say that the incident was not related to a police chase and police were not involved in the accident, looking to dispel rumors they'd seen spread on social media. The Plainfield Police Division and the Union County Police Traffic Investigation Team are investigating the accident.
